• Google Analytics 4 Connection to Varify.io is frequently disconnected

    How to recognize the error

It may happen that the connection between GA4 and Varify.io is interrupted. In this case, a corresponding error message is displayed. Such an interruption can have various causes, for example changes to the permissions of the GA4 role of the connected account or company settings that provide for an automatic disconnection of Google connections after 24 hours.

Note: If an experiment is started without an existing GA4 connection, no audiences are created for the experiment. Accordingly, the experiment will not receive a results link.

Effects of a disconnected Google connection

Important: Even if the connection between Google and the Varify app is disconnected, experiments will continue to be tracked reliably. An active connection is only required to start or archive experiments and to view the results via the Results link in the experiment report. No data is lost in the process.

1st experiment is started when Google is disconnected

No audiences can be created in GA4 for the experiment, as there is no active GA4 connection via the Google API. Accordingly, tracking events are sent, but no audiences are filled. Varify requires audiences to import data. In this case, the results can be evaluated via GA4 Explorations. Alternatively, the experiment can be duplicated and restarted with an active GA4 connection. Audiences are then created and can be imported.

    2. experiment is archived when disconnected

When experiments are archived, the associated audiences are also archived in GA4. If there is no active GA4 connection, these audiences cannot be archived when archiving in GA4. In this case, audiences can be archived manually in the corresponding GA4 property for archived experiments.

    3. experiment report should be opened (no results link)

As soon as experiments are started, audiences are automatically created in GA4 via the GA4 connection. These audiences can be used to import the experiment results directly from GA4 into Varify.

However, if an experiment was started while the connection was not active or the authorizations were not sufficient (at least editor rights required in GA4), no audiences could be created. In this case, data import is also not possible - therefore no result link is displayed.

Once the problem has been resolved, the experiment can be duplicated and restarted.

    How to fix the error

The Google account can be reconnected at any time without any loss of data in the existing audiences.

If the account is disconnected regularly, for example every 24 hours, this could be due to a re-authentication setting in Google Cloud Session Control.

In this case, the frequency of re-authentication can either be extended or completely deactivated.
